EMP Shield DC Charge Protection Module
The EMP Shield® DC Charge Protection Module is the first EMP protection device built for the DC power circuits, battery and charge controller of the Flex Power Station and the solar panels used to charge it (not compatible with any other power stations). The EMP Shield is the only device that offers protection while in use without requiring awkward or bulky Faraday cages or bags.Â
In the case of a solar flare, lightning strike, EMP or other electrical event your solar panels, Flex charge controller, Flex Battery(s) and Flex DC power circuits (along with every device plugged into the DC output ports) will be protected. Keep in mind, if you want to protect your Flex inverter and Flex AC power circuits you’ll also need to purchase the EMP Shield AC Power Protection Module.
This device is listed by the Department of Homeland Security in their EMP resilience report.Â

EMP SHIELD DEVICEÂ DESCRIPTION
This device will protect all the electronics and equipment connected to it.
This is accomplished by shunting (shorting) the overvoltage coming in from an EMP event. The DC EMP Shield plugs into the EC8 solar input, between the Flex and your solar panels. The Flex EMP Shield is built for PV arrays with a max VOC (voltage-open circuit) of up to 90V. Make sure the maximum VOC of your array is within this range to ensure your EMP Shield protects your DC circuits.
Regardless of the source of electrons in an EMP event, the Shield will see the surge and protect your electrical system. EMP Shield’s technology reacts in less than 1 billionth of a second. Since the shunting is completed incredibly fast, the overvoltage is drained away from the equipment before the voltage can rise high enough to damage any equipment. This new technology is called SightSpeedâ„¢.
EMPSÂ EXPLAINED
EMP is an abbreviation that stands for electromagnetic pulse. During an EMP, a source emits a pulse of electromagnetic energy in the atmosphere, which causes the air to become electrically charged. This pulse is very brief and doesn’t affect people, but the atmospheric disturbance it creates can have serious consequences for electrical equipment… Read more HERE.
